An exploration through art of the emergence and development of the diverse cultures of the Ancient Near East from 8000 B.C. to the rise of Islam (mid-7th century A.D.)

The visitor will discover the extraordinary artistic achievements of the societies that thrived within a vast area stretching from the eastern Mediterranean to Central Asia and the Indus Valley. On display are masterpieces from Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq) that include some of the world's earliest writing, Sumerian sculptures, and a remarkable group of stone reliefs. Other fascinating objects include carved ivories, and magnificent silver and gold vessels from Anatolia and Iran.
